Rock sandpiper (Calidris ptilocnemis). The northernmost of sandpipers.
Rock ptarmigan (Lagopus mutus).
Harlequin ducks (Histrionicus histrionicus). These birds are in front of the homestead every day and can spend the whole year in the Aleutians. They feed mainly on crustaceans and shellfish.
Greetings from another island chain, a bit to the south of you there. Bob's mom introduced us to your blog when we were passing through Seattle recently. I am so enjoying it. I love the bits and of course the photos are amazing.
I've posted a link to you all on our own friends-and-family blog because I know that much of my small readership will also be as enthralled as I am with Crowberry Tales.
We're back in Washington taking on our second year of farming on Vashon Island. What proceeds on this page are pictures and a few stories from our experiences tending the land. We've got the help of two apprentices this year and the hodgepodge of regular and irregular volunteers. We sell mainly through the CSA and a restaurant in Seattle, and at the road-side stand and the farmer's market on the island.
